It is the home of a famous natural spring and is a popular spa and health resort destination. One of the largest spa hotels is the Grand Hotel Quellenhof, owned by the Schmidheiny family.

Bad Ragaz liegt an den Ausläufern des Taminatals. Es bildet das touristische Zentrum des Sarganserlands. Die Südostgrenze zum Kanton Graubünden bildet der Rhein, die angrenzenden Gemeinden sind im Süden Pfäfers, im Westen Mels und im Nordwesten Vilters-Wangs.
