Chiasso (, or commonly ; in Lombard: Ciass ) is a municipality in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.
As the southernmost of Switzerland's municipalities, Chiasso is located at the border with Italy, in front of Ponte Chiasso (a Frazione of Como, Italy). The municipality of Chiasso includes the villages of Boffalora, Pedrinate and Seseglio.
In 2007, the three mayors of Chiasso, Vacallo and Morbio Inferiore decided to unite into one commune. The new united commune with a population of approximately 15,300 people over a territory of 9.2 km², has been refused by the population in November 2007.

Da Chiasso unmittelbar an der Grenze zu Italien liegt, ist der Transit- und Zollverkehr von grosser Bedeutung. Hier geht die Schweizer Autobahn A2 (Basel-Luzern-Gotthard-Lugano-Chiasso) in die italienische A9 Autostrada dei Laghi Richtung Mailand über, das in weniger als 45 Minuten erreicht werden kann.

Chiasso.Geographie.

Die Gemeinde im Sottoceneri hat rund 7'800 Einwohner und liegt an der Poebene im Mendrisiotto südlich von Mendrisio zwischen dem Luganersee und dem Comersee an der Grenze zu Italien., eine früher selbstständige Gemeinde, die seit 1976 zu Chiasso gehört, bildet mit dem Grenzstein 75B den südlichsten Punkt der Schweiz. Damit ist Chiasso auch die südlichste Schweizer Gemeinde.
