Die Gemeinde liegt im Limmattal auf einer Höhe von 395 m ü. M., nördlich an die Limmat angrenzend und reicht auf den Südhang des Altbergs hinauf, an dessen Fuss sich das Wiesentäli befindet.Rund 26.7% der Gemeindefläche sind Agrarland, die grösseren Waldflächen am Altberg machen 23.6%, die Gewässerflächen 3.1% aus. Als Siedlungsfläche sind 36.1% ausgezont (davon 92.8% überbaut), weitere 7.9% dienen als Verkehrsflächen.Nachbargemeinden sind Oetwil an der Limmat, Weiningen und Dietikon.
