Die Zürcher Unterländer Gemeinde liegt im Glattal, zwischen Zürich und der Flughafen-Gemeinde Kloten. Die Landschaft ist eher flach, der tiefste Punkt mit 420.4 m ü.M befindet sich an der Gemeindegrenze zu Rümlang. Der höchste Punkt der Gemeinde ist im Hardwald 481 m ü.M. Die Gemeindefläche von Opfikon ist zu 37 % besiedelt, 17 % ist Wald, 27 % dienen der Landwirtschaft, 17.6 % dem Verkehr und 1.2 % sind Gewässer.
